Feeding difficulties in babies

Baby-Osteo.jpg

A mother presented with her new born baby to our clinic due to the baby having difficulty feeding off her right breast.  After a detailed history it was noted that a quick vaginal delivery with no complications occurred, but mum was worried that her milk supply is low.  After a careful examination inside the mouth, looking for tongue ties, lip ties, checking neck range of motion it was found that the baby’s upper cervical spine was not rotating towards left and the baby favoured rotation towards the right more.  She also was showing signs of a plagiocephaly (flat head syndrome) on the right side.

Treatment to assist increasing range of motion of the baby’s neck towards the left saw immediate improvement in her feeding off the right breast and over time her plagiocephaly settled as she was not always favouring the right side; breast feeding improved immediately.
